Bamboo Forest, Japan

Photograph by Teruo Araya

This Month in Photo of the Day: Travel Photos

In the Muromachi period, Sesson Shukei (1504-1589), a painting priest, used this hermitage as the foothold for his activities during his old age. No sound except the murmur of the wind can be heard. Tomb of natural stone, countless bamboos all quietly breathing.

The sun coming through on the right makes it look like there is hope and safety on that side and on the left danger. The contrast is wonderful. Well done Teruo.

Wonderfull use of backlighting to bring out the brilliant color of the trees.  Great picture.

It's such a pristine environment and the photographer has so artistically captured the beauty of the place. It's such a refreshing and healing photograph, that I would love to wake up to see this framed in my drawing room, as I leave for the day.

I first thought that the stones with the red cover to the left is a human sitting

Just looking at this scene, so calming. To be amongst...this, where you are so small but who would not feel protected?

Nat Geo-I am so grateful I found these pics of yours-such talent.

If you can show, in a photo, a passion-a special drawing, emotionally-it is a gift

It is beautiful, so peaceful. There is a small bamboo forest in the South-West of France, near Montfort-en-Chalosse, very secret and almost as beautiful as this one. Time is slowing down.  Take a break and see.
