Abusir Desert, Abusir, Egypt, 1998 |

Located several miles south of the Pyramids at Giza, Abusir's smaller pyramids mark the burials of forgotten kings and queens of the 5th dynasty. Here also is a cemetery of shaft tombs from the sixth century B.C., when the Persians invaded Egypt. At the bottom of one of these shafts is a rare archaeological find: the unlooted tomb of Iuffaa, an Egyptian priest.
