Building Framing

Photo: Building framing

For National Geographic's New York Photo Camp 2008, high school students were tasked with creating a portrait of the environmental justice movement and conservation education in their Bronx community. The workshop, held in May, was presented in partnership with the International Center for Photography (ICP) and involved young people active in The Point, a community development organization. It culminated in a multimedia show documenting the students' experiences.

This gallery presents images made during the workshop, paired with the photographer's thoughts on the environment. Here, a shot by student Justina Cekaj shows a partially framed building in fading light.

"I've learned that the environment becomes what we do to it," wrote Cekaj. "If we all contribute to helping others who have needs, and doing simple things as recycling, this all contributes to our environment and making the world a better place for all living things."

Long Exposures

When making long exposures, use a remote release to avoid camera movement. If you don't have a remote release, use the camera's self-timer.
