Ebobo, Republic of Congo, 1999

"An old friend, Ebobo is a solitary male that [J. Michael] Fay first met seven years ago, when the gorilla was terrorizing a village. Fay and his colleagues talked the villagers out of killing Ebobo, then befriended the animal, which shows little fear of humans despite what appears to be a machete scar on his face."
