Mesa Verde Lanterns

Ira Block is a master at photographing difficult subjects like this cliff dwelling at Mesa Verde in Colorado. Block left the shutter open for more than three minutes while he and an assistant ran around painting the scene with flash units. The result is an evocative image that gives us a feeling of the site's history.
