Rhinoceros Hornbill, Borneo, Indonesia, 1997

"Diving for a fig, a yard-long great rhinoceros hornbill—revered as an icon of the god of war by Borneo's Iban people—startles a feeding red leaf monkey. Fruit-eating hornbills play a significant role in tropical ecology by scattering seeds on the rain forest floor."
