Dunes, Baker Beach, Oregon

Most weekends, I make the relatively short drive to the Oregon coast from my home in the Willamette Valley to run. The distracting beauty and long, mostly flat stretches of forgiving sand allow me to forget past injuries and aging body, sometimes. When I can no longer ignore my exhaustion and tender knees, I pull my phone out of my pack and snap photos until the pain subsides or when I’m stiff and cold from the usual blustery winds. Images of the coast’s cragginess are ubiquitous, but I often find the shifting, otherworldly compositions created by these unrelenting winds no less dramatic.
