Mother Moose with Calf
Photo and caption by Hazel Stark
Wildlife art often depicts the stoic and showy male of the species, yet when this mother and calf moose strode near my cabin, I remarked on the almost modest appearance of the two. They slowly browsed on willow and rose twigs in late autumn while the father bull moose hung back, seemingly to allow for a tender moment between mother and son.
