Facing a Spirit

A spirit bear, also known as Kermode bear, is feeding on salmons in the Great Bear Rainforest of Canada. An elusive, rare and mystic animal. Because of a recessive gene, this subspecies of black bear has a white coat. Normally, the gene is producing black fur. It is known that between 100 and 400 spirit bears exist in the wild, all of them are in the Northern part of British Columbia. They are sharing this habitat with other black bears that have the typical black coat. Nowadays, its habitat is threaten: companies want to bring oil tankers in this area. Hopefully it will never happen.

Location: British Columbia, Canada
