Now and Then
Photo and caption by Dawn Wilson
A bison walks through a sage brush flat on the eastern plains just outside of Denver where the Denver skyline and the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains can be seen behind him. This photo was taken at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge just a few miles east of Denver, and demonstrates the vast changes seen in a short period of time in Colorado. In less than 200 years, the landscape has gone from a healthy prairie with herds of thousands of bison to an urban landscape fraught with pollutions, wildfires, floods and water shortages due to a fast growing population.
