The girl belongs to the Aztec-Chichimeca dance group named "Tonantzin Coatlicue". This is not just a performing group. The members with their Captain lady Tonantzin are serious about respect for prehispanic Gods. Before every performance, on the eve of the day of the dance, they make an altar for their antiques Lords. They pray for the welfare of their host, and ask for a good dance next day. This photo is made on "Xochipitzahuac" or "The Indian Peoples Festival", which is celebrated every year, on Sunday after Columbus Day (October, 12). The crown made with feathers is named "Copilli".
