Apartment Buildings, Singapore

HDB flats. The name—uninspired, uninviting. Behind every other window are the fading memories of the old generation who grew up in some village in rural China or India. A home they never saw again.

More than 80% of Singapore's population live in HDB flats.  Majority of HDB dwellers are 2nd, 3rd or 4th generations Singaporeans who are born and bred locally, and we don't identify ourselves as being from China, India or any other countries.  I have never seen my grandparents' or great-grandparents'  hometown, lest to say having any "fading memories".  But I do hope to visit one day though, to understand my ancestry.
