I feel I have to point out that the smoke is artificial and the people in the picture are actually "actors". Xiaopu, a small costal village in China now attracts hundreds of thousands of photographers for its unique country scenery. To boost the tourism, local people are aware of the potential profits. To enter the village, you have to pay about 50RMB (about 8 USD).
The picture shown here is a very "famous" one. You can find hundreds of similar one on website. Just to list a few: http://www.mafengwo.cn/poi/6327758.html and http://www.mafengwo.cn/poi/6327758.html.
And you can even google this picture:
The smoke was released by "smoky cakes" to enhance the lighting. The people in the picture were a couple. Before they became the professional "actors", a old guy name "Lao Lu" was the sole actor for people taking photos. As a photographer, especially a one recognizes the values of NG. Saying "It’s just like a fairy tale come alive" is not professional without telling people the rest of the story. In my opinion it should not be considered in the photo contest without the background information presented together with the picture.
that certainly is a fairy tale of the two men and water buffalo it ends like the buffalo is a god :)
It is a stunning photograph, timeless in its appeal. Would make for an outstanding painting as well! Love it
The trees seem to be the farmers' guards...awesome.
