Bixby Bridge, Big Sur

Photograph by Douglas Croft

This Month in Photo of the Day: Travel Photos

The Bixby Bridge has been an icon on the Big Sur coastline since 1932. It is amazing that something man-made could blend so well into such an incredible environment.

Beautiful photo. The composition is wonderful, and the bright neon of the cars against the smooth nature background is striking.

As high school student with a passion for photography I always turn to National Geographic for inspiration and they never fail! For those interested my work can be found here: http://maireadkahn.wordpress.com/

Fantastic image.  Love the cars lights high-lighting the curves of the highway.  Along the rocky coast-side, with its rugged cliffs and the greening landscape, the unique bridge has a beauty all its own captured in this awesome image.

might be true.. but from my perspecktive this photo, highlighting the engineering  structure of this bridge with the dark shadows in the foreground, does the opposite of what the caption states.

Hugely mind boggling image ! To think I was driven over this without a notion of the complexities beneath me !

@water bird @water bird I think that the colors of the bridge seem like a sculptured extension of the craggy cliffs, very beautiful. Like the beauty of nature and of what we as humans bring to it.

@water bird I agree.  I used the wrong wording in the caption.  It does not "blend" into the environment, but I think it "fits" with a different beauty all it's own.
