Sun Salutation

Photograph by Kevin H., National Geographic Your Shot

A blue heron catches the last rays of a setting sun at Great Falls National Park in Maryland.

"I go there often because the herons make great subjects for long exposures against the falls," writes Your Shot member Kevin H. "After shooting for about a minute or two, I finally noticed one standing on the rocks. I loved how the glowing mist was drifting behind it and that the rocks were illuminated by the sunset."

Kevin H.'s picture recently appeared in Your Shot's Daily Dozen.

I and friends of mine would go to the falls, years ago when I was stationed in DC. at Anacostia NAS. a bunch of us guys would go up above the falls and fish, lots of good fishing around that area, if you ever get up in DC. need to go up there a check it out is amazing at the rock formation in an around the falls..

Wow. Stunning photo! The way the light plays on the rocks and highlights the blue heron, it's breathtaking!

A rather surreal look at nature's "wild calmness", as it were.     Beautiful and inspirational,.... dreamlike.

The lighting is beautiful.  I like the contract between the sharp edges of the rocks and the soft water.  The heron is perfectly placed.  It is so peaceful and poetic, like a dream.

Me,myself, and I alone! The high lighted rocks enhance the the posture of the heron, and the back ground is just perfect, for your shot. Good job, as it is said.  j.e.s............
