Sahara's Edge

Photograph by Rafal Ziejewski, National Geographic Your Shot

A camel caravan journeys across the dunes of Morocco's Erg Chebbi desert on the edge of the Sahara. Before capturing this scene, photographer Rafal Ziejewski had trekked two hours into the desert by camel and spent the night at a Berber camp. "On the way back I wanted to take some interesting photos of this amazing place," writes Ziejewski, a member of our Your Shot community. "[So] instead of taking a camel, I decided to walk. Getting off the beaten track gave me a lot of opportunities for great shots."

Ziejewski's picture recently appeared in Your Shot's Daily Dozen.

Amazing and startlingly beautiful!              The color is phenomenal, almost surreal!          Not a mark on the sand that I can see.           Love the touch of green.       Great photo.

The beauty of a golden desert that is caught 'on camera' is an awesome sight. The scope and grandeur of this picture leaves nothing to ones imagination. The far away caravan, with green brush gives a spot of color that 'pops' as they say. A really  stunning picture.  j.e.s.........

I don't think I would have the guts to get off the beaten track in the Sahara but I'm glad you did so you could get this shot.

Every time I see a photo of the Sahara it reminds me of a superb cup of coffee, warm, inviting and yet wonderful!

I agree, the color and composition is amazing.  I love the shadow showing the untouched rippling sand to the left.  Every detail adds to the picture.  It is mesmerizing.  The world, through the eye of an artist,  is a wonderful place, even in the most inhospitable environment.

It would be nice to be able to stand on the top of that ridge early evening when the sun goes down and the night breeze comes in.
