Stuttgart City Library, Germany

Photograph by Shu Koumura, Your Shot

This Month in Photo of the Day: Your Shots

Visitors browse the Stuttgart City Library, a media center opened in 2011 and lauded for its clean and open design. Your Shot community member Shu Koumura shot on tungsten-type film and used an E-6 bleach bypass development process.

What Makes This a Photo of the Day? Film! That detail alone makes me smile. A nod to those still practicing the art of analog and alternative processing techniques aside, this is a great example of taking something straightforward—the already photogenic interior of the City Library in Stuttgart—and making a stand-out shot. —Alexa Keefe, Photo of the Day editor

I love to read and have done so since I was old enough to hold a book on my own. I have lived in Germany--wish I was there now to visit and enjoy my please of reading here. Excellent shot.

A beautiful glowing image of dynamic people moving through a static storage of books.

This was an unusually fun image to view on a smaller sized display where the page's ads pushed the image down so low that only the top floor and single staircase is initially visible. If the image is slowly scrolled up, the background of each floor's bookcase acts a bit like a single flip book animation frame. The effect makes it feel like the people are moving up a single staircase.

Looks like a slice of a futuristic city.       Very interesting and so many aspects take your attention, you can spend a while here, just like a library.        Fascinating picture!

A photograph of three interior floors of a library building pretty much assures that the composition guideline of a grid of thirds will be observed.

Very chilly lighting.  No wonder all the patrons are wearing winter attire.
