Coral Reef, Honduras

Photograph by Jessica Karcz, Your Shot

This Month in Photo of the Day: The Stories Behind Your Shots

After snorkeling with my family in the breathtaking coral reefs of Roatan, Honduras, I sat outside the balcony of the cruise ship we were traveling on to admire the life and beauty of the ocean. I took the photo with a Nikon D3100 with an 18-55mm lens while the boat was lifting the anchors of the cruise ship just before we sailed away. —Jessica Karcz

I would love to snorkel here as well. I snorkeled by the barrier reef at Grand Cayman (and with sting rays) and it was one of the most amazing things to see. Thank you for sharing this beautiful photo Jessica.

It's a beautiful shot.

What worries me (as a diver), is that the coral used to be just above water right where the boat is ... but because of divers who do not know what they're doing and charter boat companies who don't know what THEY'RE doing ... it's slowly eroding and dying off.

This is what the human animal does to it's own home. There's a fine line and we always seem to cross it.
