A Ponderous Panda

Photograph by Surendra Pradhan, National Geographic Your Shot

A red panda appears to be deep in thought at the Darjeeling Zoo in West Bengal, India, home to a breeding center for the endangered animals. The red panda (Ailurus fulgens) has seen its population reduced by approximately 50 percent over the last two decades. The Darjeeling Zoo’s red panda program, which began in 1994, currently has six males and six females after two of the animals died in 2015.

So cute . . . I need preserved forest for they can be freed and live in liberty. Zoos are sad places. Tha animals don´t need us. We need them free.

Very nice shot.  Can the photographer or the Your Shot admins please provide the details of the equipment used to take this? Maybe a link to Surendra Pradhan's Your Shot page?

Shouldn't that title be 'Pondering Panda'? Red Pandas are quite light and agile and far from ponderous when, on a few occasions, they've made their escapes from captivity. Beautiful and emotive photo, though, Surendra.

Beautiful photo and extraordinary expression. Definitely a pensive panda, contemplating some weighty philosophical issue. If only we could know those thoughts.

Aawwww look at that face soo squishy, thank you for your shot, the picture captures the innocence and squishines of this cute but endengared animal so perfectly. It's so cute that it makes me want to eat it, no wonder they are being extinct...
