Deep Stream Crossing, Alaska, 1996
Photograph by Bill Hatcher
Swift and icy cold, glacial-fed rivers were obstacles often faced by a trio of cyclists that biked a 700-mile (1,126-kilometer) section of the Alaska Range. This cyclist not only fought the current but also chances of drowning and hypothermia, which are far too common in the Alaskan backcountry.
