Winter White

Photograph by Stefano Unterthiner, National Geographic

Among the wildlife inhabiting Italy’s Gran Paradiso National Park are ibex, chamois, red foxes, and ermines such as the one shown here wearing its white winter coat (its spring and summer coat is reddish brown).

Beautiful, intelligent, curious little guys; they'll forgo food and safety to satisfy their curiosity about something new.  Wonderful shot!

Very nice shot. Remarkable contrast between the dark nude rock and the cute ermine and her whiskers. :)

cute little guys! I see them every now and then while out in the woods. Very quick and nimble. Chase down mice like they're not even moving.

Oh, how adorably cute!  If he could speak human, he (or she) would say: "Please don't make coats out of me and my kin; we need our own fur to keep us comfy warm, let alone alive. Go buy something woolly or cottony; no animals have to die that way. Thank you!"
