Farmhouse, Delaware

Photograph by Michael Melford, National Geographic

This Month in Photo of the Day: Nature and Weather Photos

Painter Andrew Wyeth kept a secret studio a few miles from this Woodlawn farmhouse, creating works of art inspired by the surrounding landscape until his death in 2009. Some of his paintings evoke similar wintry scenes.

There really is only a couple of inches of snow on the ground (from the way it looks to me). It looks like, a first of the year snowfall (no snow build up against the house and it looks like the dead weeds or flowers from summers end are still standing, not flattened down from a winter of snow storms. It also looks like there is very little snow under the heavily entangled branches of the apple tree and no snow under the pine tree) and the large flakes are often an indication that the storm will be short lived and with not a lot of snow accumulation.

I wish we had a big winter like that. Especially since we are in a big drought.

I wish we had that much snow here. I wonder how the house is not caving in with all that snow?

what is so cool about this photo is that the snow and the house are all together in one photo. VERY GOOD PHOTO !

This picture is really cool! It looks like it was taken at the begining of a blizzard. I like how the house is almost the same color as the snow so it blends in pretty good.

The snow and white house is a nice color, and the whole setting seems to glow with a soft white light.

The picture looks fake and it looks like a drawing. Also I love how you got the picture in a great distance.

AMAZING photo. My favorite part is how the house blends in with the snow. Also I like how the trees look like they have frosting on it.
