Sorry to see that the soup in the pot looks like the river water, except for whatever is floating on top. Would like to have known what the complete recipe ingredients were.

This photo was taken on the ferry that goes to Mrauk U, a small village in eastern Myanmar (Burma). Using a slow boat is the only way to reach the ancient Burmese capital. This man is the cook on board. On the way back, I saw him making the same dish, with the same ingredients, again. I wondered how many times he’d done it before …

The overhead angle allows me to really see what this man’s work is about, including the ingredients he’s working with. The thing i like here is the great clarity of the things in the image and the sharp dimensions of every single object in it.

A look into the life of another, in another culture...requires, maybe, a bit of openness to difference. Reflected here for me is a simplicity that may be unfamiliar for those of us whose culture is so very, very different. With the world "situation" among so many people, there surely is a gratefulness for the very presence of food, as fell as a thankfulness for work cooking on a boat to provide not only food, but hopefully money for the other demands of life! The image is a reminder and the caption helps understand the image!
