Waterfall, Iceland

Photograph by Hordur Finnbogason, My Shot

This Month in Photo of the Day: Nature and Weather Photos

This is an image I have had on my mind to get for three years. To align the waterfall and northern lights that are strong enough to light up the whole surroundings. At last it happened and I was at the right place at the right time. Godafoss means Waterfall of the Gods and takes its name from the old Nordic sagas.

I visited Iceland in 2012 and saw the Northern Lights and also visited the Godafoss. Your shot of having both in one photo is really awesome and beautiful. Great stuff.

The two things that fascinate me, misty waterfalls and northern lights. This shot is true beauty! I think this is the best night shot I have ever seen, perfect! Absolutely magical.

This is still cheating a little.  This photo was not taken this April.   This is an ,,autumn photo", not a April one.

Thank you all for beautiful comments.  This picture was taken just after midnight on a Canon 5d MkI with a canon 24mm 1.4 L lens.

Exif:
25 sec
F 2.2
ISO 800

The mist that can be seen is the spray of the waterfall and it can be a pain because the wind blows it on the lens.  But at this night the wind blew the mist in the opposite direction luckily.

But thank you again all.

Best regards Hordur.

This picture is absolutely stunning! I love how there is more than just one waterfall. The northern lights lights are really cool too. Its cool how they kind of fade off in the background.

@Hordur FinnbogasonLOVE this photo! Great capture. What time of year did you capture this? I'm thinking of a trip to Iceland but having a hard time deciding what time of year to go. Puffins vs aurora borealis and accessibility questions.

@Mallory K I also think that the photo really did get the water falls in the right position. nice comment.

@Cason Purell That would be awesome! I bet it wouldn't freeze all the way though, but maybe portions of it. Depends on where the waterfall is located I guess.
