Ice Diamond, Iceland

Photograph by James Balog

This Month in Photo of the Day: The Power of Photography

Destined to melt, an 800-pound chunk of ice glows in moonlight on a wintry Icelandic beach. The ice washed up in a lagoon formed by a receding glacier. Photographer James Balog calls such pieces ice diamonds, finding beauty as well as tragedy in disappearing glaciers.

Eu acompanho muito este canal da National Geographic, pois o interesse deles e sempre achar novas partes do planeta que ninguém avia visto. E como o objetivo é demostrar a natureza que existe em nosso planeta. E isto eles fazem da melhor qualidade.

One volcano will pollute more than man ever dreamed.  We kid ourselves thinking we are super-important enough to change global nature.  It's been warmer and colder tens of thousands of years before we drove trucks around iceland taking pictures.  It's a mathematical farce to extrapolate data from any human instrument the changes in climate through the eons.  We are a speck of dust on a speck of dust in a galaxy that is a speck of dust.  The earth will be fine after we obliterate ourselves in wars.

Exquisitely beautiful!        Beauty can be deceiving as it doesn't have a great destiny.
