Those Lion Eyes

Photograph by Hannes Lochner, National Geographic Your Shot

When photographer Hannes Lochner set up his camera at a water hole in South Africa's Kalahari, he tried hiding it from curious lions because "they might play with it or carry it off," he writes. "On this particular evening, I was in my vehicle just as the sun was setting, the dust in the air creating a special kind of Kalahari light, and a pride of lions arrived. By repeatedly clicking the shutter, I coaxed the ever curious cubs forward."

Lochner's picture recently appeared in Your Shot's Daily Dozen.

Unbelievable!          What a shot to behold!        Can this be real, it's so fantastic?        Love the background, with it's sunset, trees and even the weeds.

Am I the only one who thinks that the lion is pasted on the background? LOOK: Lion's mane is definitely photoshopped -- marquee and feathered, +drop shadow.

That is a close up!  You can see his curiosity - maybe a giant bug?

@Kris Guico This photograph won one of the themes on "Wildlife photographer of the year-2013" I went two weeks ago to see the exhibit and the first thing written on the wall was that all photographs had been proven to be real, as to get into the competition (with some big money prices) they are examined. You can check all the competing photos on their website.

@Kris Guico I think it's enhanced not sure if the lion was dropped in though? It's a tough call, you may be right.
