Cycling in Morocco

Photograph by Hielke Gerritse

"This picture was taken in the Central Atlas Mountains, Morocco," writes Hielke Gerritse, who submitted this picture to the National Geographic Traveler Photo Contest. "This area is populated by the indigenous Berber inhabitants. The sign on the wall represents the Berber [Amazigh] flag. Tamazight is the local language. The word also stands for free man, noble man."

I also love that door and the colorful design on the wall.

Wow! Great timing! It turned an ordinary doorway into a home! I really like this one! Well done

Fabulous! I have just returned from visiting the Moroccan south where nature still reigns supreme, towns and villages just blend into the countryside. An abundance of fresh, high quality organic food, natural cosmetics greet you along the way. Temperatures between 30 and 45° C cause no strain as the air is very dry. I intend to return 2015 for a longer stay .... may be even include some biking. ;-)

The contrast here of rough, and smooth, and the cyclist caught bang in the middle of the doorway, makes for a good shot. The colors are strong, giving us another kind of contrast. Is the hole on the right hand at the bottom,a drain hole of some sort? I think so. Good timing, good shot. j.e.s.......

So many interesting and diverse textures and depths of color in the building and the door are what I am drawn to in this photograph.   Am wondering about the small hole at the bottom right of the doorway?    Fascinating photo!
