Happiness Is a Warm Sun

Photograph by Kersti Kalberg, National Geographic Your Shot

"It was the first beautiful winter day in over a month, and the sun came out and everybody just stopped," says Kersti Kalberg, a member of our Your Shot community. "The world almost stood still, and the silent happiness just poured in."

Kalberg went for a walk to enjoy the day, as did many others, including the pony, Rainbow, found standing in the sunlight. "It looked like he was just feeling the sunlight and fresh air. I found it something remarkable, as if he were there for me to finally understand how similar people and animals sometimes are."

Rainbow looks like a fictional character in a book.  He is beautiful and what a perfect shot.  I really do believe he is enjoying this moment with the cool fresh air and warm sun.  Just beautiful.

The glow in the color, the dim in the eyes, the firm zip of the lips and the wide nostrils receiving life. You cant ask for more....

Beautiful and I really agree with Kersti about the similarity between animal and We ( human),.

I love everything about this. Especially I appreciate how the love the photographer has, shows through. And what a wonderful phrase given us here: the silent happiness just poured in. Thank you.

Oh,that feels so good! With with her eyes closed to the glare, and with her beautiful champagne/beige coloring, Rainbow take in the warmth, just as we do. A wonderful shot to please the eye, and heart of most anyone. Thanks for this awesome shot, that is a portrait, of a great subject. j.e.s...........

Hoarfrost on the branches of the trees from frigid moist air as the early morning sun comes out for the first time in weeks - I have been there.   The pony's eyes are closed but the bright sun is making vibrating colors against his eyelids.  His mouth is soft showing his relaxation and his  nostrils are flaring to take it all in.

One shouldn't speak in such absolutes unless one has absolute knowledge. Look up Icelandic ponies silly.
