Close Encounter

Photograph by Sandro Lonardi, National Geographic Your Shot

While diving in the Galápagos Islands, Sandro Lonardi took a break between dives to snorkel with sea lions. "At first they were all on the island, but slowly they entered the water and started to play with us," says the Your Shot member. "They were a bit shy, but as I started to imitate them, they become more familiar and started to get closer and closer. It was a great moment."

Lonardi’s picture recently appeared in Your Shot's Daily Dozen.

This really is special a magical scene. So clear and sharp - not sure if my eyes are playing tricks but can I ask  do I see your image reflected in the eye to the left? if so that makes it even better. :)

I absolutely love the expression confronting the camera.  "What are you doooooooing?  Can I see?"  One of my friends calls seals 'dog mermaids', and honestly?  They do look like that in this photo.

Their eyes are so very soulful, and expressive. To be able to play among them was a joy, I'm sure.Your shot is a great one proving to these creatures that some humans can be trusted!  Thanks so much,  j.e.s........
