Shanghai Skyline

Photograph by Tian-yu Xiong, National Geographic Your Shot

This Month in Photo of the Day: City Pictures

Clouds roll in over Shanghai, one of the fastest growing megacities in the world. Just a modest fishing town a century and a half ago, China's most populous city is a free-spending capital regarded as one of the world's most desirable markets.

Check out the bold new look and feel of Your Shot, where you can share photos, take part in assignments, lend your voice to stories, and connect with fellow photographers from around the globe.

I really love the cool color hues of this whole shot. It keeps a natural theme and calm vibe. Almost like an urban painting

I had the chance to see this impressive and futuristic skyline a few weeks ago. The best place to truly enjoy it is from the outdoor terrace at the Char bar on the 30th floor. Breathtaking!

Wish the resolution was high enough so that I could save it as a 1900 x 1200 jpeg. This picture would blend in perfect with all the other great 1900 x 1200 photos I have saved in my "National Geographic Slideshow". I have plenty others that I can swap in and out. It just makes or a nice day to see these great photos swap in and out on my desktop and do a little daydreaming.

Then I can guess which photo will be the next one to scroll in for another brain stimulator.

This is just a wonderful photo!!

年代means 19**s ,if you are interested but confused in something, just ask me.

I am an ordinary 17-year-old senior high school student from China ,which is an old and new country is always misunderstood by the world.

Many say we are in poverty,I can tell you seriously tell you it is not true, yes,we were poor even starve 50 years ago but not now, everything has changed since we had economic reform in 1978.My family suffered starve that days ,but now we have everything to eat, have iphone,PC,laptop and nearly all thing you have.

And many of you hate communism,in fact we are now fading the effect of Karl Marx and Chairman Mao and we are finding our own way,and communist social is a beautiful dream in which we will live happily, but if it won't come,we still live in our own way,no one worship a man blind.

Many say China government is despotic and it is not true either, many of you have the impression form medium but it describes China even it was 50 years ago, under reform ,we have more and more freedom ,and criticise government on net, though we have a long way ,but we have been already on it. We are learning from every country, developing ourselves and take duties and hoping for peace, that is China currently.

You are welcome to China, and people here must be treat you with passion, and you will see what it is here.

Congratulations Xiong

The mauve tones capture something quite powerful within the city.  As if there is an enormous pent up energy that rests under a velvet glove.

@震垚 徐 I'm tired of discussing our political and economical issues with people. When you have chance, travel around, expand your horizon, and keep your eyes open.
