Snake Charmer, China

Photograph by Wesley Thomas Wong, Your Shot

This Month in Photo of the Day: Your Shots

A snake charmer performs with his pet snake during a spring festival in China.

What Makes This a Photo of the Day? I first saw this picture when it was submitted to a Your Shot assignment called Catch the Light, and I keep coming back to it. The monotone color palette and the deliberate posture of the performer juxtaposed with the shadowed, slightly askance curtain is an example of perfection and imperfection working together. —Alexa Keefe, Photo of the Day editor

This Charmer is very  Brave.  I wish him all the luck in the world.

I had better keep practicing my photo skills. I love the monotone of this picture

The man has quite boyish charms as he caresses the snake in a kind of dance.  What really captures my eye is the way that the shadows of the leafless tree cast an ominous cobweb like presence over the photo.  Then in the foreground there is a netting that is somehow supposed to protect the viewer from an escaped python.

This is a terrific colour photo that all takes place in shades of maroon. I really like this.
