Absolutely fantastic shot! This is a Scottish Red Deer (Cervus elaphus scoticus), native to the British Isles. Its neck and face are greyer than its body.

@Bill Palen Stag is a connotation for male, mostly used to refer to a male deer. However it is not wrong to use “stag” for a Elk either, and for that matter many other male animals, just as a calf is not only limited to a cow.

I think this is the most beautiful stag picture I have ever seen. It is magnificent. The branches in the fog behind him duplicate the pattern of his antlers.
