Jungle Canopy, Honduras

Photograph by Jeremy Lock, My Shot

This Month in Photo of the Day: Your Photos

A dead tree towers over the jungle canopy in the rain forest of the Mosquito Coast, Honduras.

(This photo and caption were submitted to My Shot.)

What Makes This a Photo of the Day? What works for me here is the contrast, in color and shape, of the dead tree and surrounding mass of vegetation. It seems as if the tree is rising out of the jungle. With nothing to distract the eye, this is a great example of less being more. —Alexa Keefe, Photo of the Day editor

Absolutely stunning photo. I had to stop and post. It is like the stark contrast between lush, glorious life and the frail haunting starvation of death. ONE DOES NOT EXIST WITHOUT THE OTHER.

I see a frail great- great-grandfather lovingly spreading his arms over the present & future generations of his progeny

Want to be a bird flying on it, between the heaven and the earth.

LIKE AN ABSTRACT PICTURE.. THE NATURE IS TELLING SOMETHING MORE,  MORE THAN WHAT WE SEE IN OUR OWN NAKED EYE.. ^^

Very intriguing textures and colors shown in the contrast of the beautiful branching tree surrounded by all those shades of green, and the lighting shows off the trees.  Trees are remarkable and this is a remarkable capture.

Beautiful. I agree with Alexa's assessment that this is "a great example of less being more".

@Homert Tabuyan  I think you mean "with" our own naked eye, not" in".  But then I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to convey.

I wasn't sure anyone would understand my "ent" comment. I see you're a J.R.R.Tolkien fan, Once again.
