Beverly Joubert was born in South Africa in 1957. She began her career in photography in Botswana's famous Savute region, where with her husband, film director Dereck Joubert, she began making natural history films. Her work has appeared many times in National Geographic magazine, as well as in over a hundred magazines worldwide.
Beverly and Dereck Joubert are National Geographic explorers-in-residence. A number of films have been done on their work, including National Geographic's A Passion for Africa.
Beverly Joubert has won various categories of the BBC wildlife photography competition over the years. She was featured in the film The Photographers, and she has appeared on many television shows to discuss her work and life as a female photographer in Africa. Her photographs have been exhibited in France, Africa, and the United States.
In 1997 she produced her first book, Hunting With The Moon, about the Jouberts' work filming and researching lions in Botswana over a 14-year period. In 2000 she produced The African Diaries, a book about their lives in the bush.
She is a co-founder of Wildlife Films, which has produced many films for National Geographic Television. She has received two Emmy awards and a Peabody Award for her production and sound recording role on the film Reflections of Elephants. She is also credited as producer of the Walt Disney Pictures feature film Whispers: An Elephant's Tale.
Joubert is a member of the Chobe Wildlife Trust and a founding member of the Wild Places Foundation.
