Darlyne Murawski

Darlyne Murawski combines her background in art and biology to showcase the lives and ecology of lesser known organisms, such as insects, fungi, and parasites. Her desire to inform and inspire her audience with the real-life details of these tiny organisms has taken her around the world in search of predatory caterpillars, spider webs, and moths.

She is the author and photographer of four children's books, The World of Reptiles, Bug Faces, Spiders and Their Webs, and Animal Faces.

Her work has appeared regularly in National Geographic magazine since her first story, "Passion Vine Butterflies: A Taste for Poison," appeared in December 1993. She has been honored with the prestigious Award of Excellence (2001) from Communications Arts and by the Alfred Eisenstaedt Award Committee for her nature photography (1998, 1999).

She holds a doctoral degree in biology from the University of Texas and a master's degree in fine arts from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has worked as a research biologist and has taught courses in biology and nature photography. Currently she devotes most of her time to photography and writing. Her home is in Arlington, Massachusetts.
