Heather Perry graduated from Colby College in 1993 with a degree in marine biology, worked as an aquarist at SeaWorld in Florida, and later studied underwater photography at Brooks Institute of Photography.

Pursuing projects about local marine and freshwater natural history, Perry has built a portfolio of underwater and surface images, aerials, and environmental portraits. Her work sites include California's kelp forests, Micronesia, the Galápagos, the Caribbean, and the Gulf of Maine.

Her photos have appeared in National Geographic, the New York Times, Ocean Navigator, and Maine Times magazine, among other publications.

In 2004, Perry earned a photographic development contract from National Geographic magazine for her work on American eels. And in August of 2006, she released her first book of photographs, Confluence: Merrymeeting Bay.

Perry is also an actor with the Theater Project Professional Company in Brunswick, Maine. She loves to quilt and mosaic and has been a competitive swimmer since the age of six. She is happiest in, on, and under water.
