An American who divides his time between Paris and New York, Mitchell Feinberg has been shooting luxury still life for more than 15 years, distinguishing himself as one of the world's premier jewelry and accessory photographers.

He has built a large and prestigious base of clientele, shooting major campaigns for Louis Vuitton, Bulgari, and Yves Saint Laurent, as well as editorial content for Numéro, The New York Times Style Magazine, L'Officiel Hommes, and Vogue.

Feinberg's first assignment for National Geographic was a September 2006 story about shoes.

"National Geographic is a new venue for me, as I usually work for fashion and lifestyle magazines," Feinberg says. "When I first received the phone call from Washington, my only thought was 'Huh?' I shoot with a view camera and 8" x 10" film, and I rarely leave the safe confines of my studio. It was with great relief when I learned the story was to shoot shoes—at least there would be no hungry bears involved! Since that first National Geographic story, I've had an opportunity to shoot all kinds of interesting things: grapefruit, garbage bags, bamboo, and even pumpkin oil. The subjects are certainly more challenging than the usual suspects of handbags and bling bling."
