Lily Pads, Venetian Gardens
Photograph by Frank Curtis
This Month in Photo of the Day: Your Photos
This Photo was taken at Venetian Gardens in Leesburg, Florida, just after a thunderstorm. The dark sky leaving the area shows a three-foot diameter water lily with new collected water. A dragonfly came to drink the freshwater in the safety of the center of the lily. On the third trip to the water, I was lucky to catch it in full flight … Mother Nature taking care of her family.

Tecopa Hot Springs
Photograph by Christine Tuohy
This Month in Photo of the Day: Your Photos
This was shot in Tecopa Hot Springs south of Death Valley, CA. Middle of nowhere! A mile from here, I was soaking in a hot spring marsh. Two guys appeared, and (I'm not making this up) their names were Vladimir and Igor, and they were Russian Cirque du Soleil performers from Vegas. So we all had a nice hot soak! It was very odd, and I think of this every time I look at this picture!

Bangalore Hip Hop
Photograph by Sudha Pillai
This Month in Photo of the Day: Your Photos
Homegrown hip hop bands are a new phenomenon in Bangalore, India. Low Rhyderz is the first hip hop band in the city that combines elements of Indian beats with hip hop rhythms to create a music that is unique. This photograph was taken when they were fooling around in a car mechanic shop. Obviously, the mechanic found the entire scene "interesting."

This shot was taken at Voe Agricultural Show, Shetland Isles. A very handsome specimen, but it was completely nonplussed about the prospects of winning a trophy!

Demsa Dancer, India
Photograph by Kieron Nelson
This Month in Photo of the Day: Your Photos
Orissa, India. Behind a ramshackle cluster of market stalls an impromptu Demsa dance was in full swing. The women danced in semicircles while the men played musical instruments. Suddenly, the crowd stopped clapping. A young man, his face painted a vivid blue, stood in the middle of the circle. He vanished into the multitude, only to reappear like a deity on the shoulders of two men. The dancing started again with the banging of drums as he was spun in a circle to the delight of the crowd.

Saltwater Crocodile

This Month in Photo of the Day: Your Photos
A saltwater crocodile lunges for the camera. This photo was taken just before its jaws closed on the lens shade; the blurred outline of the jaws demonstrates the lightning-fast nature of its lunge.
