Sleeping Man, Delhi
Photograph by Henry Rollins
Afternoons in Delhi are very hot but there is a window of several minutes when the light is just perfect. I tried to be out in it every day I was there. This man’s stillness made me wonder if he was still with us. I thought I saw his chest move before I left his side.—Henry Rollins

Standing Guard, Beijing
Photograph by Henry Rollins
This was my first time in China. My hotel was a few blocks away from Tiananmen Square. I would go there every day around sunset to check out the scene. The temperature was very low and I couldn’t last all that long. I was constantly being checked out by police and soldiers—everyone was.—Henry Rollins

Butchers, Delhi
Photograph by Henry Rollins
I was wandering through a large market in Delhi and came upon this huge butcher shop. The way the light caught the flesh was interesting to me, so I stayed in there for some time. I don’t think the butchers understood my enthusiasm.—Henry Rollins

Soldier, Afghanistan
Photograph by Henry Rollins
I was on a USO tour. I believe that was my second time in Afghanistan. I had been out all day at forward bases on the Afghan-Pakistan border. I was at Khost and Gardez for sure—there might have been a third one. We were on our way back to the Bagram base when I took this photograph. On bad days, the rear of the Chinook is pulled up most of the way and there’s a gunner there. On good days, it is as you see here.—Henry Rollins
